Walther Strong HD Sleeper Tape is specifically designed to protect hardwood and softwood railway sleepers, particularly incised, rough, or uneven timbers commonly used in landscaping and ground contact applications. Moisture is the primary cause of timber failure, even in treated sleepers, and HD Sleeper Tape addresses this at source.
Using an advanced M50+ morphing rubber adhesive, the tape actively flows into and fills the incisions in the timber, eliminating voids where water can sit. Once applied, the adhesive cures into the wood, forming a continuous protective barrier that blocks moisture, oxygen, UV exposure, and harmful microbes — the primary causes of sleeper failure over time.
HD Sleeper Tape is engineered for soil contact and high-moisture environments, sealing exposed faces, overlaps, and joints to protect timber sleepers from premature rot and weathering. It also self-seals around fasteners and fixings, preventing moisture ingress at the most common points of failure.

| Use Case |
Step 1 – Bottom sleeper (first sleeper at the base):
Place the tape on the exterior face, leaving 50mm along the base.
Fold the tape under the sleeper along the bottom edge.
Bring the tape up the interior face so the inside is protected too.
Step 2 – Subsequent sleepers:
Line up the tape with the top edge of the interior face.
Run it down the interior face.
Overlap the tape from the sleeper below by 50mm to prevent water getting in.
Step 3 – Tips for a neat and effective job:
Keep the tape smooth and tight, no gaps or wrinkles.
Always maintain the 50mm overlap.
Work from bottom to top, so water sheds correctly.
Position the bottom sleeper, which rests directly on the ground, with tape along the bottom and on the interior face of the sleeper bed. All subsequent sleepers should overlap by 50 mm to ensure moisture cannot seep through.
